The Troon RNLI lifeboats were called out late on Tuesday to reports of a missing person in the area.
The volunteer crew were paged just before 10pm by Belfast Coastguard to help in the search alongside coastguard teams and police.
The search was under way to the north of Troon Harbour when the person was located and the lifeboats stood down.
A Troon RNLI spokesperson explained: "At 9.51pm on Tuesday, May 14, Troon RNLI lifeboat crew were paged by Belfast Coastguard to launch both lifeboats after a request from Police Scotland to assist in the search for a missing person at Troon.
"Alongside coastguard teams and police resources, the volunteer lifeboat crew launched D class inshore lifeboat ‘Sheena’ and Trent class all-weather lifeboat ‘RNLB Jim Moffat’ to search an area to the north of the harbour.
"With the search under way, information came through from the police that the person had been located so the lifeboats were stood down by Belfast Coastguard."
