Sport and fitness students at Ayrshire College organised their biggest boccia tournament yet - with close to 100 supported learning students taking part.

Boccia is an inclusive precision ball sport, similar to bowls, that can be played by anyone regardless of age, gender, ability or disability.

Students from Ayrshire College’s Supported Learning department have been enjoying similar tournaments for the past year, which are organised as part of the sport and fitness students’ event organisation unit.

This was the first tournament that involved students from another college as New College Lanarkshire visited the Kilmarnock campus for the event, while centre users from the Sir Alexander Fleming Centre in Kilmarnock also took part.

On this occasion it was the Kilwinning campus team who came out on top in a fun-filled day facilitated by the NC Sport and Fitness students.

There are now plans to grow the event even further in 2024 with talk of a tournament for students from across all colleges in Scotland.

Chris Boyce, Supported Learning lecturer at Ayrshire College, said: “This is absolutely my favourite event, it brings joy to so many of our students and is a fabulous learning experience for our sports students.”
