Irish Law

This challenging route up the Irish Law near Largs in North Ayrshire is generally a more challenging path which offers excellent views of the surrounding Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.

Lasting around 3.7 miles, the hilly route is perfect for hiking, running and walking. However, visitors should ensure the weather is suitable before trying this.

Portencross to Largs (Ayrshire Coastal Path 11)

For a long coastal route featuring a historic castle, try this path which runs from Portencross to Largs.

Lasting around 7 miles, the route features Portencross Castle and is perfect for a wee cycling or leisurely stroll on Christmas Day and beyond.

University of the West of Scotland (Ayr Campus)

While Ayrshire is home to plenty of rural and coastal walks, it also features a number of paths in the heart of large towns like Ayr.

This path is considered an easy route and runs along the River Ayr through the UWS campus, making it perfect for those who want a quick wander rather than an expedition.

Sorn to Stair (River Ayr Way 2)

This 11-mile walk from Sorn to Stair in East Ayrshire follows along the Ayr River, allowing visitors to explore the Ayr Gorge Woodlands Reserve and nearby villages and towns like Failford with its popular pub.

Craufurdland Estate

Craufardland Estate near Kilmarnock offers intertwining woodland paths which run along the nearby fishery and wetlands.

This easier route offers tranquillity and even has a nearby eatery called The Laird's Table.

Irvine Beach Park

Irvine Beach Park offers a circular trail near the coast which takes around 39 minutes to complete.

The site has been praised for its quietness with AllTrails saying: "It's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring."
