A man has been arrested following a shop fire in Kilmarnock town centre on Monday morning. 

Police and fire services were called to the Claire's store in the town's busy King Street shopping area. 

Police confirmed that a man had been charged in connection with the incident. It is understood nobody was injured in the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.05am on Monday, November 13, police received a report of a fire within a shop in King Street, Kilmarnock.

"SFRS attended and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries.

"A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, November 14.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 12.03am on Monday, November 13 to reports of a fire within a building on King Street, Kilmarnock.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire and an aerial appliance to the scene where crews extinguished the fire.

“Firefighters left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Pictures from the scene showed smashed windows and the building completely gutted, with wreckage strewn across the pavement.
