The first stage of major works on the A737 between North Ayrshire and Glasgow has been cancelled.

Resurfacing works were due to get under way on the busy road on Monday night, but have now been suspended due to emergency works by another company in the area.

Amey, which was due to undertake the work, says resurfacing will now be rescheduled in due course as part of phase two.

There will now be no works on the road until the start of phase two, which begins at 8pm on Thursday, December 14.

Works will take place between Roadhead roundabout and Clerksbridge Toll roundabout, with the road closed between 8pm and 6am each night from Thursday, December 14 to Monday, December 18.

Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Tuesday, December 19.

A signed diversion will be in place and will operate as follows...

Southbound traffic will leave the A737 at Linclive Interchange and follow Linwood Road on to the A761 at Ferguslie, before turning right onto the A726 and following Barrhead Road and Hurlet Road and turning left onto the A736.

Traffic will then follow the B762, crossing over the M77 Junction 2 and turning right onto Boydstone Road and right onto Kennishead Road before following onto the B773 Parkhouse Road. Traffic will continue onto the A736 at Barrhead and follow to Lugton, turning right onto the B777 and re-joining the A737 at Beith.

Northbound traffic will be diverted via the same route in reverse.
