East Ayrshire has been named as the most affordable place to buy a home in the UK. 

New figures from the Land Registry show how average salaries compare to average house prices in local authorities across the country. 

The latest data covers property prices between October 2022 and October 2023, showing the least and most affordable postcodes across the UK.  

East Ayrshire sits at the top of the list, with an average house price of £128,148, and an average full-time salary of £35,726 pre-tax.

This means that the average home in the authority costs around 3.6 times the average salary, making it the most affordable in the UK. 

North Ayrshire comes in at number four on the list, with an average house price of £131,556 and an average salary of £35,309. 

This means that the average house price is around 3.73 times the average wage in the local authority. 

In South Ayrshire, the average house price is £168,050, whilst the average salary is £38,723 which means the average house price is 4.3 times the average wage.

Other Scottish locations in the top ten include Inverclyde, the City of Aberdeen, West Dunbartonshire and the Shetland Islands.
