A MAJOR police probe was launched last night after a man was found dead inside a block of flats in Ardrossan following a disturbance.

The 59-year-old was discovered after emergency service vehicles arrived in Montgomerie Street.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old woman was also found lying seriously injured outside the building. She was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital, where her current condition is unknown.

Police confirmed this morning that a 40-year-old man had now been arrested in connection with the incidents.

Officers were alerted to the incident about 8.30pm last night (Tuesday, September 10).

Witnesses say they found a disturbing scene, with the woman lying prone outside the house. The body of the man was discovered once police entered the property.
