A KILMAURS pub was surprised with an award celebrating over two decades of its high quality work.
The Weston Tavern was presented with a certificate to recognise its long-standing entry of 21 years in the Good Beer Guide by local CAMRA members.
John Cairns, landlord and owner, said: “It’s honestly amazing to get recognised like this. But it’s not just our work, I’ve been here since 2017 and it’s the hard work of all the other landlords, I’ve just continued where they left off.
“It’s like being part a family working here. We probably spend more time with each other than with our friends and families.”
John has been the pub’s landlord for the last seven years and works as part of a small team of 22 staff.
The certificate has now been hung up pride of place on the business’ awards wall.
Alongside this, they’ve also won awards such as Best Licensed Premises at the Ayrshire Region of the Scottish Business Awards and Best Independent Bar at the Scottish Hospitality & Entertainment Awards.
The Good Beer Guide is the UK’s best-selling beer and pub guide which represents the best of the best in the brewing and hospitality industry.
Over the years there have been many highlights for the tavern besides the awards, such as bringing the community together for the Christmas Light Switch on event and Easter Sunday Eggstravaganza.
The continued success of the pub has nothing to do with quick fixes and is instead down to hard work.
John said: “There is no secret to success, just good Scottish hospitality. Also make sure to look after everyone. Our ethos is care for everyone, the food, and the ale.”
