SHORTLEES Amateurs have been crowned champions of Ayrshire following a stunning cup win.

The Kilmarnock-based side faced off against Glenburn MW in what was set to be a thrilling encounter in the Ayrshire Cup final on Friday, May 10.

After what has been a disappointing season by their own high standards, this was the last chance for Shortlees.

And victory was far from a given as they faced off against a strong Glenburn side who are enjoying an outstanding season on all fronts and are the current leaders of the Ayrshire Premier League.

However, despite their fine form, the Prestwick side were no match for Shortlees who put in a stunning display at Beechwood Park to run out 4-0 winners on the day.

Ayrshire Today: Shortlees were celebrating Ayrshire Cup success last week.

Doubles from both man of the match Keir Knapp and Adam 'Yogi' Smith secured victory and that all important silverware.

Boss Colin Smith commented: "To a man everyone was outstanding and more like Shortlees Amateurs.

"It's let us finish season with a bit of pride back after a tough campaign. The team's been down this year but definitely not out like people were suggesting.

"We have not performed this year for various reasons that us at the club know. But we have been poor and still winning trophies.

"It shows what we are all about - beware next year."
